This is a hoot -- great orchestration, too. Hard to imagine the normally suave Hoagy Carmichael doing this . . . but I guess he did have his folksy side, didn't he?
I compared this with an earlier version I have by one Bud Billings -- Bud's is raunchier and has many more verses. Ends with Barnacle Bill telling the fair young maiden that he's never coming back -- then slams the door and says "goodbye."
There are a lot of versions of this out there. I heard a version with a man with a popeye type voice doing it that was a real hoot! Of course, the original by the legendary Carson Robinson is still one of the best!!
