when you look at the writer's credit, you'll see that wayne carson thompson wrote it. and he definitely had heard one or two box tops songs too much. he's the writer of "the letter". still mr. bus driver was a minor hit for bruce channel.
Gary Talley of the Box Tops told me that when he and Alex Chilton left the group in 1970, Neal Dover was brought in as Alex's replacement, although he never recorded with the group. Last I heard, Neal still performs somewhere in Tennessee today.
