Having a look about the internet seems that Robert "Smoki" Whitfield was also an actor.It seems he was a bit typcast having a recurring role in the Bomba the Jungle Boy series playing a friendly native named Eli. Too bad, based on these two sides I be he was capable of a lot more.

I think Eddie Showed up late 56 or early 57 with Skinny Jim. I think this was recorded in 55 if my memory serves me correctly
